Sydney beach has been closed after mysterious balls appeared on the shoreline. Damian Ryan explains. The famous Coogee Beach roped off bringing back those horror memories of COVID, but it's not pandemic which forced the closure this morning, but mysterious black balls. Black balls which washed up on the sands late yesterday and continued this morning. At this stage, it's guesswork as to how this all happened. One theory is that leaking oil from passing tanker mixing with debris from storm water earlier this week and just maybe creating the black balls. Now, Randwick Council has called on the EPA to help get to the bottom of this mystery. We're currently investigating what the source of this mysterious beach pollution is. We do not yet know what the source is. However, we are in current conversation with the relevant authorities, with the New South Wales government to identify what these mysterious black tar balls are. The beach closed left those ocean swimmers high and dry this morning. And we thought, we'll have swim walk along the beach." And well, lo and behold, we can't even get on the sand. We swim every day at 8:30, and it's true that we're very disappointed that we can't swim today, but of course we always we put our health first and we always follow the lifeguards' instructions. So, if the beach is closed, we don't swim. The cleanup is underway and will take much of the day. The council insists the beach will remain closed until it gets to the bottom of this black ball invasion on one of Sydney's most beautiful beaches.
