It is the talk of the town today. The loud boom, the flash of light in the sky experienced by lot of folks across the Houston area this afternoon. And then there was this. home in northwest Harris County hit by something that crashed through their roof. Good evening to you. I'm Tom Ziska. We're glad to have you with us. While scientists work to determine what this was, we begin with the impression that it made particularly for family that saw it up close. Fox 26's McKenna Nhard explains. Tons of questions on social media about loud boom heard across Houston. Well, those same questions are brewing in this home right here in this Ponderosa Forest neighborhood because this rock came flying through their roof, through the ceiling into their daughter's bedroom onto the floor, bounced off the floor, and hit the ceiling over here and then fell onto the bed. Now, they called the Ponderosa Fire Department who said they've never seen rock like this and think it might be part of meteorite. Here's what the family of this home had to say. I'm like, my goodness." had just didn't know what it was and was like, and saw the rock and the first thing come to my mind was it's meteor. You hear this loud noise. You run up to your daughter's room and you see rock on the floor. was holding it. would say it's probably like six lbs. Yes. It's very heavy. It's very heavy. And it don't look like cement or like normal rock or anything, but it's just the weight of it. You could tell there something different. But the first thing looked, saw the hole in the ceiling, the point, the impact on the floor. So, it had to be coming down with force to come through the roof. got my grandson again to go in the attic. said, "Look at them roofs and see if got hole in the roof." you got hole in the roof. So called the fire department and they sent the constable over and they looked. The first thing they thought it's probably something fell off plane. The fire department left. Then they came back and they said, "Miss James, we believe that is meteor." They said meteor exploded over the north part of Houston and it came out and fragments came from it. And he said, "We believe that is what this is. It's meteorite." Cuz when saw the rock on the floor, that what really escaped me. I'm like, "What is that?" Comfortable. Actually, they was the one that picked it up and put it in the bag because didn't want to put my hands on it. You're thinking, "I'm going to turn into an alien." Exactly. want no alien bacteria to get on me or no radiation or whatever. Some people have to be thinking you're crazy. What would you say to them? No, I'm far from it. Far from crazy. But this is mean like say it is exciting and it is it's scary and exciting at the same time. But proves you know it can happen in the in the meteorite right. Yeah it can happen to anybody. Guess so it traveled. It definitely traveled to your home. Yes. Of everybody of every home of all places. Mine. And it came through whole new roof. We're still waiting to hear from NASA on what they think. But this rock is pretty heavy. It's like six lbs. For Fox 26, I'm McKenna Nhard. So, this is not the first time there was loud boom in the skies over the United States. Tuesday, large meteor shot across the skies above northeastern the US and Canada. NASA says the 7 ton meteorite exploded over northeast Ohio with sonic boom that shook houses in the Cleveland, Ohio area. They say it was about the size of car, traveled around 45,000 an hour when it entered the Earth's atmosphere, and then fragmented. People even reported finding pieces from that meteorite as well.
