It's succulent perennial, meaning it comes back year after year. It thrives in USDA zones 10 and 11, which is exactly where I'm at. Now, here's the most important rule for my Florida gardeners. You have to be careful when you're putting this in the ground. This plant is listed as invasive in certain parts of Florida. It reproduces Viv Perry, which means it grows babies on the edges of the leaf. Now, if you want your whole yard spread and filled with this, then go ahead, plant it in the ground. But even though it can be invasive, you know, from my own personal experience, this is plant that's easy to contain because it's not like, let's say, mint or even other plants that have seeds that can spread everywhere and make it even more invasive. This plant, it grows pretty large as you see the leaves, and you can just dig it up. It's going to grow wide. It's going to grow tall. You can just dig it up. So, you really don't have to worry too much, but it is invasive. wife threw leaf just leaf down back here in the garden and this is what came this is how easy it is to grow. She just threw one leaf down. And this is also why say it's even though it's invasive, it's not that difficult to contain because it grows pretty big. So you can just dig this up and you no longer have the issue. As long as you don't have leaf down there, it's not, you know, it's not going to seed. It's not going to continue to grow. It's not seeds spreading around. It's the literally the leaf itself which is invasive and it will grow in any condition, but it's not seeds. And that the seeds in plants that are invasive is what's scary. The leaf is pretty easy to contain, but it is very, very, very easy to spread throughout your yard. Here's the solution. If you don't want to take the chance of letting this run wild in your yard, you just put it in pot. We have ours in pot. We have some in the ground, too. But we have lot of ours in pot like this. It loves sandy, well draining soil. use simple potting mix, some potting mix, little bit of sand, and it loves this Florida sun, but it can handle partial shade just fine. We have some in shade, and it's doing just fine. It's drought tolerant. water mine maybe once week if that. This is tough plant. You don't really have to do too much and it's still going to grow. Man, why should we grow this? Because the benefits are they're just undeniable. It's been used in traditional medicine for centuries and now modern science is catching up. They're jumping on board. Now again, I'm not doctor, so please consult with your doctor and do your own research before taking this. But here are some things that this plant can do. Now, lot of people call this the kidney stone crusher in many cultures for reason. This is like natural remedy for dissolving kidney stones. The compounds in the leaves itself are believed to help break down calcium oxilate stones. If you want to improve your kidney health, this is an excellent plant to put in your backyard. Respiratory relief. Now, my family uses this for coughs and bronchial issues. Wound healing. You can take leaf, heat the leaf, and if you put the leaf directly on the wound, it's going to help reduce inflammation and it's going to speed up that recovery time. You have kids at home, they're always tripping and falling, scraping their knees, this is an excellent plant for you to put in your backyard. Studies has even looked into it anti-diabetic properties and how it helps reduces blood sugar. This is all from the same plant. You get all this from the same plant. Now, if you want to know how to take it, what we do is we make tea with it. We take about three to five fresh leaves. Wash them good. Bring about two cups of water to boil. Let it simmer in 5 10 minutes. Strain it. It has mild slightly sour taste. Not too bad. Add little bit of honey or you just go to your garden, get lime, lemon, squeeze it. it is good. It's good to go. So, you can also chew this leaf raw for sore throat. So, if you feel like cold coming on, just pick up leaf, chew it raw. It's bit tart, but you know, that's the taste of health, right? you can also blend this in your smoothies if you like to. lot of people do that. We've done that. This plant is highly toxic for cats and dogs and other animals. So, if you have any animals in your backyard, make sure you keep them away from it. It's not good that they chew on this. Another thing, this is not meant to be your nightly green. You want you don't eat this like salad. taking it couple times week is sufficient. like you're going to get full health benefits from it. Teeing it couple times week is great. And if you feel cold coming on, taking leaf or two and just eating it is fine, but this is not meant to be daily harvest where you're taking all these greens every single day and you're eating it. That wouldn't be advised. Variety is spice of life. So, personally suggest using this in conjunction with your other plants that you're growing. We've talked about so many. have playlist. grow your own medicine cabinet where I've given you so many different herbs you can grow. Combining this with all your other herbs is the way where you're going to really up your health factor times 10, possibly even more. And that's how would take it.
