I'm I'm professor of neuroscience at the brain and cognitive Sciences department at MIT also direct the Institute for learning and memory which is independent research institution embedded in the brain research building which encompass is the brain and cognitive Sciences Department as well as the mcgaven Institute my lab has been focusing on the pathogenic mechanisms of aging related neurodegenerative diseases in particular Alzheimer's dementia so in the last 20 years or so we have been looking at molecular cellular and brain Sur circuit mechanisms and impairment that can contribute to alzheimer's most recently we have also Incorporated human genetics as well as epigenetics epigenomic and then combines with big data approach to really figure out what changes is in the human brain in different brain cell types that may play role in Alzheimer's disease and then based on this data from human subjects we then formulate hypothesis and test these hypothesis using human stem cell cell culture models and and eventually in Mouse models was born and raised in Taiwan and when was very little lived with my maternal grandmother and and eventually learned that she had Alzheimer's dementia and my personal experience with her her actually gave me lot of motivations to to conduct Alzheimer disease research thought about her lot you know sometimes her very confused expression such as you know all of sudden she will forget where home is and so you know and now also observe in other people that know of this is really Alzheimer dementia is really pervasive disease and affecting more and more people as the society is aging more and more people are experiencing the same experience my grandmother had so so you know I'm really motivated to to really contribute whatever can to provide better insight into what happened in the brain that causes Alzheimer's and what we can do to manage or control this pathogenic process
