hey everybody welcome back to my channel my name is Kailyn this is full purpose at heart and in today's video want to share with you guys this resource this is another of the skill sharpeners family books this one is their new critical thinking so they have six subjects in the skill sharpeners family critical thinking being the newest of them I'm really excited to kind of take look in this book with you guys share with you some of my thoughts about it I've been really excited to start using it with my kindergartner so if you're interested in seeing what this book is all about let's go ahead and get started all right so as said there are six books in the skill sharpeners family or six subjects rather and their newest one is this critical thinking book have lots of these kind of look in the books for their skill sharpeners in my playlist so make sure you check out my even more resource playlist if you're looking at some of these resources so the critical thinking one this is resource that you can get from preschool up through sixth grade and essentially what it is is getting your students to creatively think about various topics all of the pages are full-color as all of my skill sharpener books are and love that and then they're divided up or at least this kindergarten one that I'm going to be looking through with you today you can kind of see we have four subject areas that we're going to be able to highlight and within each of those subject areas there's going to be two topics so we have animals transportation plants and places and then even inside each of those we have four animals cats and dogs and insects which I'm really excited about the insects one because that's gonna be really cool thing to add to our science unit when we're studying insects we have transportation and within that we have bikes trikes and wagons and then cars trucks and buses in the plants we have flowers and trees again flowers I'm excited about because we always do flowers unit with my preschoolers at the end of the school year kind of when the spring comes so I'm gonna save that section for when we do that with those kiddos and then for places we have oceans and deserts and mountains and Plains both of which kind of couple perfectly with my social studies units that I'm gonna be doing with my second grader so this is gonna be an awesome resource to be able to saddle up next to those other subjects that I'm teaching with my kiddo now inside each of those subject areas are those topic areas you're gonna have several activities that you can do and wish that could say there's number of activities for each one but they're all little bit different and they checklist here that you can do with your kiddo now if you know me I'm checklist person love having checklists to mark off what needs to be done you can even put on here like dates that you want to get them done if you're like on schedule or you're trying to fit them into some kind of other unit that you're doing with your kids so let me show you the insects one because I'm excited we're coming up on learning about insects here so on the insects one don't know if you're gonna be able to see this really good but on the insects one I'll just read it to you okay let me back up for second within each unit there's going to be the first two activities are always the same so the first activity that you get is read all about it activity and depending on what grade level you get remember you have preschool up through sixth grade will depend on the difficulty of that reading section so for kindergarten it's gonna be something that you're probably gonna want to read with your student I'm quite confident that my kindergarteners not at place where she could read this on her own yet but the best thing about homeschooling is that my older student who is good reader can read this to my younger student and now I'm hitting two birds with one stone so that's awesome alright so all of them are gonna have this read all about it and then the next section is going to be to tell or to show what you learn tell what you know and there's usually two activities that are kind of tell what's you know activity where you get to identify different things or put something together match different things that sort of idea so this one is going to be recall and label and then the next one is going to be identify and recall and they have to pick out which of these bugs that they've got on this page here are insects and which of them are not after that it's kind of just don't know there are several activities that you could potentially get they're not really necessarily the same across the board just with different pictures on them which really like because sometimes you get these types of books and for each subject area they're the same activity they just put cats and dogs on ones and then insects on the other but it's the same activity so like that Evan has created different activities for each of these different subject areas or they put little twist on varying activities so something that you're gonna your kids will do there's things like solving problems finding different things matching apply show analyze compute create and create so there's always at the end of each activity some kind of art project or hands-on activity that the kids get to do so we're cats and dogs they're gonna make paper cat for insects they're gonna make grasshopper and how shoot there's another one anyway so that's kind of fun because at the end of everything you get to wrap up your unit with some kind of hands-on art project and you don't have to peruse Pinterest to hopefully try and find what it is that you want to do and become overwhelmed with all that stuff they've got it all for you right here and know that I'm always one who looks so if you're one who looks all of these there's only one cutout page for that art project and it's intentionally blank on the back so you can cut it out and not ruin the integrity of the rest of the activity pages in your book so all of them are going to be like that again the very beginning of the unit you're gonna read all about it and then you'll have couple tell what you know activities then there's all kind of like analyzing and solving and thinking about talking about you know for like pets know one of the activities is what is your favorite pet or if you could have cat or dog which one is better what are the correct things or what are things you need to do to take care of pets again it's just these practicing thinking not necessarily just like answer the question based on what you read or based on what we talked about but really just thinking activity which is really important skill especially for all subjects across the board so Evan Moore has really put lot of thought into this to make sure that it's really useful resource it's very inexpensive so homeschool mamma's can purchase this and add it to their curriculum without breaking the bank again love that right right now it's ten dollars so you know spend ten dollars at my lunch most of the time so this is really good resource that you might want to look at too for the me tell you the other subjects in case you're new we have spelling right reading math science critical thinking geography and then grammar and punctuation which also is also new to the family so it's really cool that you can have so many different kind of colorful exciting activities that's different from the regular curriculum that you may be purchasing for your kiddos to go through anyway again
