welcome to math with Mr Jay in this video I'm going to cover the x-axis and the y-axis of the coordinate plane so whether it's been while and you just need quick review or maybe this is new to you hopefully this helps as far as the x-axis and y-axis let's start with the x-axis now the x-axis is the horizontal axis so it goes side to side this horizontal number line right here is the axis so let's write horizontal right here for the axis now let's move on to the y-axis which is the vertical axis so it goes up and down this vertical number line right here is the y-axis foreign so let's come over here and write vertical for the y-axis and then lastly let's take look at an ordered pair so an x-coordinate and coordinate and we're going to see how this is related to the and axis so for our ordered pair we have 2 negative 5. now remember the coordinate always comes first and the coordinate always comes second so two is the coordinate and then negative 5 is the coordinate this tells us that we need to go over to 2 on the x-axis and then down to negative 5 as far as the y-axis goes and that's where we plot this point and if you forget which comes first or just remember ABC order comes before so here is 2 on the x-axis and then here is negative 5 on the y-axis so we go over 2 and then down to negative five and this is where we plot this point this is two negative 5. so there you have it there's quick review of where the x-axis is and where the y-axis is as far as the coordinate plane now if you need more help or examples as far as plotting points check the description for links to other videos related to this topic hope that helped thanks so much for watching until next time peace
